A Week Without C

C attended Super Computing 09 in Portland (Oregon) this past week. I always have a hard time sleeping when he's not around. It was even worse this week. Not only did my body not feel like sleeping, but I started my period, ripped-out a stitch, and generally felt mentally and physically unable to wind-down.

But, this time, this time was different. I got to watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show every night. Most nights, more than once. And Clue. Totally got to watch Clue. The troupe is considering a live-action version of that, which should be fun. A lot of work, but fun.

Next season is pretty much planned, which is neat. If you want the schedule, let me know.

I've been reading books with one of my cousins for the past few months. He was really into Twilight, of course, and has read the entire series. As well as Harry Potter and Narnia. I sent him the His Dark Materials trilogy, and he enjoyed that. So, now, I'm sort of at a loss. I'll be sending him some Scott Westerfeld. And there are plans to send him Sandman, but I want to re-read that one, first. I try to refresh myself with whatever I send him just so that I'll be able to discuss it if he wants to.

It's been an interesting project. He says he's not into Science Fiction, which almost makes me cry.

In other news, we're trying to wrap-up our holiday shopping this weekend. Late, of course. I would like to have all of C's family done so that we can take it to them over Thanksgiving and not have to worry about sending it on later. We're going to try to go to Ohio (yes, with three dogs) to see my family over the holiday break in December because the little brother will be home, and I don't get many chances to see him. Getting C's family stuff done -- a month early! *sigh* -- will mean we don't have to fight with mailing it.

Rose has been ill. As ever. She's having some immune system issues and the vet said it's probably not wise to board her anymore. For a bit, she was really water aggressive, but that seems to have calmed-down. Speed is her own special kind of awesome. She seldom leaves me alone -- not just in a clingy way. You can tell she's making sure I'm safe when she watches me, which is kind of cool. She starts obedience training on the 4th. We'll have one three-hour session followed by five one-hour sessions. We were going to kennel train her -- as in sleep-away training camp for dogs -- but the trainer said that with her confidence issues, that was a bad idea. We chose to do the first session before the holidays, even though it was adding to an already full schedule. That way, we will hopefully have some more control over her while we are in Ohio.
