This is so Totally Not Just Me

“You honor your reservations; you go to your meetings so we can clean the rooms; you’re relatively quiet; and you drink more than the American Legion.” – Anonymous hotel official, on why he liked the ALA annual conference (Quoted by Patricia Wilson Berger in Chicago Tribune article, 29 June 1990, Tempo section, p. 1)

People don’t believe me, but it’s true. The public librarian stopped by my library today to give me some promotional materials on one of her programs. She is not an MLS/MLIS. She’s just the person who was dumb enough to agree to do the job for the money they were offering. The public library is woefully underfunded, here. Anyhow, she just got back from her first “real librarian” gathering and was shocked at how much she drank, how much she learned, how hard she partied and how much work/networking was done. This is not an isolated incident.

If there are this many quotes about the craziness of librarians, there must be some truth to the stereotype.
